Record belies talent of Avs player in goal
PROFILE: Texan got hooked on hockey when Stars joined NHL. By RON WILMOT, Anchorage Daily News
Glance at Alaska Avalanche goalie Adam Kraus' won-lost record of 8-8-1 and you might think he's just a so-so goalie. But just like a pitcher in baseball, the won-lost record is hardly the best indicator of performance. Kraus faces an average of 39 shots per game. That makes his save percentage of .924 and hisgoals-against average of 2.97 all the more remarkable -- and revealing -- statistics.
Kraus, 19, is a first-year junior player from Irving, Texas, located outside of Dallas. In the first grade, he befriended Adam McPhee, son of former NHL player Mike McPhee, who came to Dallas with the Minnesota North Stars when the franchise moved to the Lone Star State in 1993. Read more...

Funky goal fells the Avalanche Daily News staff
Jake Newton's fluky power-play goal with 16.4 seconds left
helped the Texas Tornado to a 4-2 victory over the Alaska
Avalanche Wednesday at Menard Memorial Arena. With the score tied 2-2 and Texas on the power play for the
final two minutes of regulation, Newton's slap shot ricocheted
off the stick of Avs' forward Jared McIntosh and over the
shoulder of goalie Adam Kraus, who had no chance on the play. Ryan Fuller added an empty-net goal with 8.2 seconds left
for Texas (16-8-3), the three-time champion of the North
American Hockey League. Read more...

JUNIORS: Pals turned him on to the ice after success in roller hockey. By RON WILMOT, Anchorage Daily News

He didn't start skating until six years ago. Now, playing at the junior A level against skaters with as much as three times his experience, McIntosh is hoping to play college hockey.Read more...

Avs take another shootout vs. Bobcats By RON WILMOT, Anchorage Daily News
